Moyes: Hoping the sale of Arteta has not set a precedent for Everton selling their best players

David Moyes is hoping the departure of Mikel Arteta will not set a precedent for other players wanting to leave Everton in the future.

Arteta was sold to Arsenal on transfer deadline day last month with the £10million fee helping to balance the books at Goodison Park.
Everton boss Moyes has insisted that it was his decision to sanction Arteta's sale, with the move also helping the Spaniard to realise an ambition of playing in the UEFA Champions League.

The midfielder's exit has led to suggestions Moyes will face a battle to keep hold of his other key players, with Phil Jagielka also having attracted the interest of Arsenal.
Belgium international Marouane Fellaini is also being linked with clubs in the Champions League and Moyes is aware of the dangers that Arteta's sale could lead to.
"Yes, there is a danger that selling Mikel could set a precedent, but I hope not," said Moyes.
"I would like to think we can hang on to our best players.
"But there is always a danger when someone goes after saying they want to leave that it could set a precedent, and we will have to be careful of that."
